Video Displays
Many home theaters use a direct-view television, another name
for conventional TV set with which all of us are familiar. A TV
is described by the size of its picture tube, measured diagonally.
Although you can build a home-theater system around a 25"
set, 32" is generally considered the minimum size for serious
home theater.
For picture sizes larger than 35", the rear-projection: television
is ideal. Rather than project the video image directly onto a
picture tube as in a direct-view TV, the rear-projection set uses
lenses and mirrors to project an image onto a screen mounted in
the front of the projector's cabinet from behind that screen .
When people talk about a "big-screen" TV, they're usually
referring to a rear-projection TV.
LCD
Recent advances Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Digital
Light Processing (DLP) techniques have made front projectors using
these technologies vastly better than they were just a few years
ago.
PLASMA TV
Plasma TV is and another development of the Video displays which
need more attention.
